Reminder, campgrounds remain closed at Colorado state parks

DENVER (KKTV) – While folks are encouraged to get outside in their own neighborhood while practicing social distancing during the new “Safer At Home” order, many campgrounds remain closed across the state.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife is working toward reopening campgrounds, but as of April 28, campgrounds at state parks remain closed.
“Campgrounds within Colorado State Parks will remain closed through the weekend,” Cherry Creek State Park wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. “All reservations between May 1st and 4th will be canceled and fully refunded.”
During the month of April, packed parking lots at trailheads across Colorado forced some local officials to close lots and even roads.
“Colorado Parks and Wildlife is reminding anglers, hunters and all other outdoor recreationists that it is your responsibility to research and understand the specific guidance, ordinances and restrictions in place for any planned local recreation activities,” Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials wrote in a release back on April 14 in
Colorado State Parks and many trails remain open, but Colorado Parks and Wildlife has closed all playgrounds, picnic areas, campgrounds, dispersed camping and camping facilities
“We are asking people to be considerate of rural areas that have their own vulnerable populations and lack the healthcare resources that might exist in more populated areas,” said Rick Basagoitia, area wildlife manager in the San Luis Valley.
